The Vacuum Your Process Needs, Nothing More

The Elmo Rietschle SVT Series includes 11 oil-lubricated screw vacuum pumps with integrated variable speed drive (VSD), from 7.5 to 90 kW (605 to 5,740 m³/h). Designed for centralized vacuum systems, they operate in the 100 to 250 mbar (abs) range (approx. 22.5 to 27 inHgV), where most industrial processes actually run, and deliver up to 50% energy savings compared to fixed-speed pumps.

Aircom Technologies, an authorized Elmo Rietschle distributor based in Kirkland since 1999, provides sales, service, and genuine parts across Eastern Canada.

Why Use a Variable Speed Drive on a Vacuum Pump?

A fixed-speed pump runs at full speed even when demand drops, pulling the system deeper than the process requires. Running at 60 mbar when your process only needs 100 mbar can increase power consumption by 30 to 40%.

The SVT continuously adjusts its speed to hold the exact setpoint. In multi-pump installations, one SVT acts as the trim pump and follows demand, while the others run at base load at their most efficient point. The integrated controller can coordinate up to 8 pumps, a far more efficient approach than fixed-speed machines with cascade control.

Key Features

  • Up to 50% energy savings through precise setpoint control
  • Cleaner production halls: installed in a remote plant room, the pumps keep heat and noise off the floor and reduce HVAC costs
  • Compact, plug-and-play design: integrated controller and easy service access
  • 3-stage oil separation, engineered with computational fluid dynamics, for very low back-pressure and oil carry-over of 3 ppm or less
  • Integrated inlet valve: regulates start-up and rough vacuum, then the VSD takes over below approximately 500 mbar (abs)
  • Hot/cold section architecture protects electronics, stabilizes performance, and controls noise
  • Air-cooled or water-cooled on all models

Applications

  • Battery and electronics: house vacuum for pick-and-place, component handling, and fixture clamping in electronics and lithium battery plants
  • Food and beverage: vacuum packaging (meat, fish, dairy, ready meals) and vacuum filling (milk powder, baby formula, canned fruit and vegetables)
  • Aluminum can manufacturing: holding and clamping during forming, necking, and high-speed decorating
  • Glass container production: vacuum forming in harsh, continuous-duty environments
  • Medical systems: centralized hospital suction networks and sterilization processes
  • Also: printing and packaging, plastics, woodworking

SVT: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between an SVT and a dry screw vacuum pump?
The SVT is oil-lubricated and optimized for centralized vacuum between 100 and 250 mbar (abs), with oil carry-over of 3 ppm or less. For processes that require completely oil-free vacuum, Elmo Rietschle also offers dry screw technologies. Aircom can help you choose based on your application.

How much energy can an SVT save?
Up to 50% compared to a fixed-speed system, depending on your demand profile. The more your demand varies throughout the day, the greater the savings, since the SVT slows down instead of over-pumping.

Can multiple SVT pumps work together in one system?
Yes. The controller coordinates up to 8 pumps using a base-load and trim strategy. For deeper vacuum, the SVT can be paired with VSD boosters.

Do SVT pumps run on 60 Hz in Canada?
Models SVT600 to SVT2000 are available in 50 and 60 Hz. For SVT3000 to SVT6000, 60 Hz is a non-standard option: contact Aircom to confirm configuration and lead times.

Does Aircom provide service and genuine parts for SVT pumps?
Yes. Aircom supplies genuine Elmo Rietschle parts and offers preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs for industrial vacuum systems throughout Eastern Canada.
